Program Outline

Live, Online & Self-paced

  • Introduction to vehicle aerodynamic development using CFD

This section introduces the foundational concepts of vehicle aerodynamics using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). It begins with an overview of the course content and structure, providing a clear roadmap for the journey ahead. Students are also immersed in the historical evolution of aerodynamic design, exploring groundbreaking projects that have shaped today’s cutting-edge methodologies, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

  • Vehicle CFD simulation technique

This module focuses on mastering the technical aspects of CFD simulations. Students dive into the core governing equations, industry standards, and the leading software tools essential for performing high-quality simulations. Additionally, they acquire hands-on skills in critical simulation processes such as preprocessing, meshing, convergence checks, post-processing, and data reporting — ensuring accuracy and efficiency at every step.

  • Vehicle flow field analysis

Students explore the dynamic flow structures and aerodynamic phenomena crucial for vehicle design, from wake formation to vortex behavior and management. The module covers road car aerodynamics, with an emphasis on drag reduction and stability, as well as hypercar design, focusing on optimizing downforce across aeromaps. The journey culminates with Formula 1 aerodynamics, unveiling strategies to achieve peak performance within the sport’s stringent regulations.

  • Communicating your findings

Effective communication is crucial in aerodynamic development. In this section, students learn how to present their results clearly and convincingly, from conceptualization to execution. By focusing on the translation of technical data into useful information, students learn how to make a meaningful contribution to design decisions and promote team collaboration.

  • Develop a closed wheel high downforce race car

The final module applies all learned concepts to a real-world challenge: the aerodynamic study of a high-downforce race car. Through a detailed case study, students translate theoretical knowledge into practical solutions, analysing the initial results in order to refine and improve them with the aim of increasing vehicle's performance. This hands-on approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of real-world vehicle aerodynamics.
